This time of the year is extremely busy, and I just want to give you some important items that we will be taking place over the next few months so you can get them on your calendars. We will continue to communicate through our web site, and by sending information home in Monday folders too.
Remaining make-up days – The following days were scheduled as teacher workdays, but have now become school days for students in order to make up the missed days due to inclement weather: Friday, March 28; Monday, April 21; Wednesday, June 11; and Thursday June 12.
Spring Concert – will be held on Tuesday, April 15. Ms. Boltja and our third grade students are working on a version of the “Seussical” play, based on the writings of Dr. Seuss. In addition the chorus will be performing that night as well.
Just to make it interesting, we have given our students another reading challenge! If they meet the challenge, then I will have to perform the part of the “cat in the hat” in the drama with them. In grades 2-5 the reading points will be calculated using the reading passages and questions from the Achieve 3000 program, and in grades K-1 reading minutes (reading or read to by an adult) will count.
Tech Trek – Preparation for our third annual 5K Tech Trek is well under way. Please make plans to participate on Saturday, May 3rd. This is one of our largest fundraisers to support our effort to purchase technology for our students, and is also a day for lots of fun for our students and entire Dillard Drive family. You can register, or just find out more information on our web site. (www.dillardes.net)
Our 3rd-5th grade students will get a chance to show us what they are learning in the last week of March. (Doesn’t that sound much more positive than “Third quarter benchmark testing is coming up the last week of March?”). We will reward all of their hard work by giving everyone a Spring Break the week of Monday, March 31 through Friday, April 4.
Please be sure to visit the web site for continued updates for activities and events. You can even sign up for tweets to keep you informed of important announcements.
Let me conclude by thanking some very important people. Thanks to our staff for all of their hard work to support our students. They truly make Dillard Drive Elementary a great place to learn and work! Thanks to our students, you have worked hard this year, and we want to continue to see you progress! And to our parents and families, thanks for all of your support as well. We very much appreciate, and need, your continued support!
Wishing you a wonderful month!
